Hostal San Juan, Salobrena on the Costa Tropical in Spain

Salobreña village sits peacefully on the Granada Costa about mid way between The Costa de Almeria and Malaga on the Costa del Sol. This area is known as the Costa Tropical because of the wonderful all year climate. With about 320 days of sunshine each year and only about 40 days where the rainfall is measurable we enjoy the most stable climate in the whole of Europe. The Costa Tropical is fast becoming a favourite destination for winter as well as summer holidays.

Salobrena Castle is of Moorish origin dating back to the 13th century and its Mudejar church, Iglesia de Nuestra Senora Del Rosario dates to the 16th century, the church is built on top of an ancient mosque.

The area is a first choice when considering activity holidays with so many interesting possibilities. The ski resort of Sierra Nevada features high on the list being just 75 minutes drive from the village of Salobreña.

Much closer is the 18 hole beach side golf course of Los Moriscos and the splendid city of Motril. As we are in such a natural area there are still lots of good footpaths offering opportunities for bird watchers and wild life enthusiasts, plus the chance to see many plant life species long disappeared from other parts of Europe.

There is a full cultural calendar in Salobreña, with concerts, plays and films regularly shown at the Auditorium. During the summer months, outdoor shows are held in the Parque Fuente and at the Arab Castle. There are many fiestas celebrated throughout the year, these include, Carmenes del Mar, the Salobrena town summer fair and the Romeria which is a spectacular show of colour bringing people into the town from all the surrounding villages.

There are more than 150 kilometres of roads and pathways to explore around Salobreña. The Tourist Office produces some excellent literature outlining the various routes. Walks range from one to seven hours.
